Wednesday Evening

Hi Everyone - Anyone?

Three days in and I'm on a roll...

7am on Monday morning my Learning Team Leader (Year 7) - a good buddy of mine - and I had a cup of coffee before going up to Office Works to collect our exercise books for the kids. We sat down and worked out how many books we needed (H was buying for the Year 7 team and I was buying for the Years 8 to 10 English classes), we wrote out a list and decided that because they were so cheap we would double the quantity!!!

So off we went, bought the books ($10.00 for 2000) and paid $40.00 to have them delivered. Talk about a touch of irony, but neither of us have big cars so we just couldn't fit them all in. Funnily enough just as we were leaving the store we heard the supervisor informing all of the checkout staff that there was now a limit of 50 exercise per customer. LUCKY US!!! I proceeded to purchase stationery for the Senior School English teachers and so that was all to be delivered along with the exercise books. So COOL!!!! We then went to breakfast, mmm mm bacon and egg sandwiches.

Yesterday I spent some time organising my documents and continuing with the planning for years 7 to 10 (I've put the year 11 and 12 programming in the too hard basket for the moment). God sometimes I feel so good about what I have done. NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS GIRL'S EGO!!!!!!!

It was today that H and I went down to school for the first time this year. She and I have both moved from the year 9 learning team where we were last year, to the year 7 Learning Area. I walked in to an abomination of packing boxes and what looked like piles and piles of papers. I just about suggested that we go home and start next week. H was laughing at me saying that she and her mother (one of our fabulous school volunteers) had spent her birthday washing walls!!!! AND that I just had to get over myself - and so I began what seemed an impossible task.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered a bottle of champagne in the middle of all my paraphenalia!!! It is now sitting in my fridge getting cool and looking forward to putting a smile on my face on Friday evening when I share with a few of my pals!!!

See: there is an upside!!!

Today is the Last Day

Today is the last day of my holidays!

Actually when I say it is the last day I am not quite being truthful as it is self inflicted. I know that it sounds stupid but I am officially still on holidays until the 29th of January. On the last day of school before we began our long summer holiday I decided to give myself two whole weeks of not working. Today is the last day!

It has been really hard not to get out my portable hard drive and begin working. So, once again I will say I know it sounds stupid but, I really don't think any teacher ever stops thinking about what they could possibly do in the classroom.

So, you may ask, what am I going to do today? I'll tell you.

Read, see my kids, have a drink with my Dad AND watch the cricket. Come on Aussie, come on!

So maybe I'll talk to you tomorrow after I have gone to Office Works and bought about 1000 exercise books!

Surfing the blogs

Since my daughter introduced me to blogs I have slowly been moving around and learning about this whole new (well it is, for me...) scene. After a very hesitant start, HEY, I'm loving this!

I have a dreadful feeling that it will also be my downfall - I know that my daughter reads, blogs and reads blogs instead of working - I think that Blogging and reading Blogs will take up a lot of the time during which I should be doing prep work for the classes I teach. OMG I may have to organise my time! I don't know whether I can do this!

I think I'll just do my usual thing and put the thought away to be dug up later when I'm better prepared to think about it!

Oh shit, oh hell, oh Jane!

2009!!!

WELL after a very - and I mean very - low key start to the new year, I had some of my family over for a roast lunch. It was pork, the piece that I cut off from my Dad's contribution to the Christmas family dinner that we have each year. I had to cook the pork this year as Dad broke his wrist earlier in December, so I thought that I'd just cut a bit off for a meal at another time. You would have too, if you had seen just how big the piece of pork was!

Anyway back to yesterday. I thought that the folks (my Dad, my daughter, my sister and her son) could arrive at 12n so we could have a drink and a chat prior to eating at 1pm. It also gave my son another hour to arrive if he could manage it after the night before. WELL, after finishing a damn good book (Matthew Reilly), checking out my daughter's blog and posting a comment, I got on to a sight for cat lovers and got carried away with setting my profile and other bits and pieces. When I looked at the time it was 11.15am SHIT (I thought) and put the oven on and the pork in at 11.25am.

Thank goodness that I had already showered and, because it was heating up (we were expecting 39 degrees C) I was wearing only my underwear. I then raced around like a hairy idiot tidying up my little unit. Naturally my daughter arrived five minutes early and had a pink fit, ranted and raved a bit and then went and got my vacuum cleaner to do the floors - cat hair all over the rugs! In walked my Dad which gave Kris another excuse to rant and rave which somehow magically gave Dad the go ahead for a "take the shit out on Jane day". And when Linda and Tim arrived Tim thought it was so funny that he had a dig or two as well - Linda doesn't do that kind of stuff, she's nice!!!

At one stage during the afternoon I told the people I had invited out of the goodness of my heart to a really very nice (everyone said so) meal, that I was beginning to feel like I was five again.

It was 6pm when the last guests left and even though I was the butt of their jokes I had a really great day. To top it all off, I sat down and watched "Prince Caspian" on dvd. It was such a lovely film that I think I might try to use it in the classroom this year.

I hope that you all enjoyed the 1st of January and that the year just keeps on getting better for you.
