2009!!!

WELL after a very - and I mean very - low key start to the new year, I had some of my family over for a roast lunch. It was pork, the piece that I cut off from my Dad's contribution to the Christmas family dinner that we have each year. I had to cook the pork this year as Dad broke his wrist earlier in December, so I thought that I'd just cut a bit off for a meal at another time. You would have too, if you had seen just how big the piece of pork was!

Anyway back to yesterday. I thought that the folks (my Dad, my daughter, my sister and her son) could arrive at 12n so we could have a drink and a chat prior to eating at 1pm. It also gave my son another hour to arrive if he could manage it after the night before. WELL, after finishing a damn good book (Matthew Reilly), checking out my daughter's blog and posting a comment, I got on to a sight for cat lovers and got carried away with setting my profile and other bits and pieces. When I looked at the time it was 11.15am SHIT (I thought) and put the oven on and the pork in at 11.25am.

Thank goodness that I had already showered and, because it was heating up (we were expecting 39 degrees C) I was wearing only my underwear. I then raced around like a hairy idiot tidying up my little unit. Naturally my daughter arrived five minutes early and had a pink fit, ranted and raved a bit and then went and got my vacuum cleaner to do the floors - cat hair all over the rugs! In walked my Dad which gave Kris another excuse to rant and rave which somehow magically gave Dad the go ahead for a "take the shit out on Jane day". And when Linda and Tim arrived Tim thought it was so funny that he had a dig or two as well - Linda doesn't do that kind of stuff, she's nice!!!

At one stage during the afternoon I told the people I had invited out of the goodness of my heart to a really very nice (everyone said so) meal, that I was beginning to feel like I was five again.

It was 6pm when the last guests left and even though I was the butt of their jokes I had a really great day. To top it all off, I sat down and watched "Prince Caspian" on dvd. It was such a lovely film that I think I might try to use it in the classroom this year.

I hope that you all enjoyed the 1st of January and that the year just keeps on getting better for you.

Ciao
